Michaela Jones is our Women's health specialist Physio. She understands the unique problems that can happen in the pelvis, such as urinary incontinence, prolapse, bowel dysfunction and pelvic pain.
“It’s common but not normal” is how most pelvic floor problems could be described - but with the right assistance you can make significant changes to improve your life. Common problems are:
Pain in pregnancy can be common but you can decrease your discomfort by making changes to your posture, muscle strength and the way your daily activities are done.
Understanding the normal physiological changes in pregnancy means that a specialist physiotherapist is best placed to help you with the most common aches and pains during pregnancy.
Recovery after childbirth (vaginal or caesarian) is so important and an assessment to check your stomach muscles, pelvic floor muscles and return to exercise can make all the difference in looking after yourself now and in the future.
A typical first appointment includes a thorough verbal assessment of bladder and bowel habits and your posture, stomach muscles and/or pelvis may be assessed depending on the findings. You may be offered an internal pelvic floor examination to assess your pelvic floor muscles.
You do not have to have this examination and you have the right to change your mind at any time if you do so.
The findings will be discussed with you and a treatment plan will be made together with you.
At present, Michaela only assesses and treats women. For a physiotherapist with a speciality in Men’s Health, please contact https://thepogp.co.uk/
